Negotiation is an essential part of everyday life; in business, it’s critical to success. Harvard Business School Professor Michael Wheeler is at the forefront of negotiation theory and practice, helping global leaders hone their strategies and develop skills that translate into higher performance. He is launching a new online certificate program, Negotiation Mastery: Unlocking Value in the Real World, hosted by HBX, Harvard Business School’s digital learning initiative. Wheeler, other renowned HBS faculty, and a dozen other expert negotiators will prepare participants to close deals that might otherwise be deadlocked, maximize value creation in agreements they reach, and resolve differences before they escalate into costly conflicts. Focused on experiential learning, the curriculum includes four real-time negotiations over an eight-week period.
The new program, geared toward experienced professionals, emphasizes the preparation of both “head and heart” before entering a negotiation. That includes both analytical tools and interpersonal techniques for dealing effectively with different bargaining styles and tactics. “Our goal in developing this program is crystal clear,” said Professor Wheeler. “We are committed to empowering good negotiators to become even better, so that they can generate greater value both for themselves and for the organizations that they represent.”
