Ten Stern Experts Shortlisted for 2021 Thinkers50 Awards

Business leaders seeking the expertise of the world’s top management thinkers keep a close eye on Thinkers50 rankings. This year, ten Stern Speakers & Advisors clients were shortlisted for the organization’s Distinguished Achievement Awards.

Breakthrough Idea Award

Sandra Sucher & Shalene Gupta are co-authors of “The Power of Trust: How Companies Earn It, Lose It, Regain It” (July 2021). Sucher is a Professor of Management Practice at Harvard Business School, a former corporate executive and an internationally recognized expert on building institutional trust and moral leadership. Gupta, an acclaimed journalist and corporate advisor whose work is at the intersection of diversity, technology, trust and the workplace, is a research associate at Harvard Business School who previously worked at Fortune magazine and the U.S. Treasury Department. Soon after its release, “The Power of Trust” was named among the best business books by The Financial Times.

Megan Reitz, Professor of Leadership and Dialogue at Hult International Business School, is an authority on psychological safety, mindfulness and diversity in the workplace. Author of the 2019 book “Speak Up: Say What Needs to be Said and Hear What Needs to be Heard,” Reitz helps leaders become more aware of their “conversational habits” — what they speak up about and what they don’t, whose voices they listen to and whose they discount.

Digital Thinking Award

Sinan Aral – Professor of Management, Marketing, IT and Data Science at MIT and a global authority on business analytics and how information spreads through social networks – is an award-winning researcher, entrepreneur and venture capitalist. Acclaimed author of the prescient 2020 book, “The Hype Machine: How Social Media Disrupts Our Elections, Our Economy, and Our Health – and How We Must Adapt,” he also directs MIT’s Initiative on the Digital Economy and its Social Analytics Lab.

Matt Beane – assistant professor in the Technology Management Program at University of California, Santa Barbara and a digital fellow at MIT’s Institute for the Digital Economy – is a leading expert on the future of work involving intelligent machines. He was also named to the Thinkers50 Radar Class of 2021.

Amy Webb is a world-renowned futurist and leading authority on strategic forecasting for business. She is the founder of the Future Today Institute, an NYU Stern School of Business professor, bestselling author of “The Big Nine: How the Tech Titans and Their Thinking Machines Could Warp Humanity,” and co-author of the eagerly anticipated new book “The Genesis Machine: Our Quest to Rewrite Life in the Age of Synthetic Biology” (February 2022).

David De Cremer is a renowned behavioral scientist who brings a human-centered approach to managing and leading digital transformations in the 21st Century. Author of “Leadership by Algorithm: Who Leads and Who Follows in the AI Era?” (2020), he is the Provost Chair and Professor at National University of Singapore (NUS) Business School and director and founder of its Centre on AI Technology for Humankind.

Radar Award

Kai D. Wright, Columbia University lecturer and author of “Follow the Feeling: Brand Building in a Noisy World” (2019), is a leading expert on building culturally fluent, change-resilient organizations and brands. A global advisor on diversity, equity and inclusion practices, he is also the creator of the Blacklist100.

Talent Award

Michelle Weise – Vice Chancellor of Strategy and Innovation at the National University System and a former entrepreneur-in-residence and senior advisor at Imaginable Futures – is a leading expert on designing the future of learning and work in the age of longevity. She is the author of “Long Life Learning: Preparing for Jobs That Don’t Even Exist Yet (2020), and co-author (with the late Clayton Christensen) of “Hire Education: Mastery, Modularity and the Workforce Revolution” (2014).
